LA: Now that we are starting the third quarter the curriculum is going to start getting a little tougher. We are going to start doing art activities that go with the letter of the week. They are also now going to focus on recognizing their own names. I’ll write them down on a name tag and see if they can pick them out from the class names. We will also be doing dancing still with the silly willy cd. The letters that we are going to focus on this month is F; lots of the art is going to be for the Firefighter, then we are going onto the letter M for Mailman. All the art for letter M will do with that theme. Our next letter will be K for Kansas. All the art for letter M will have something to do with the state of Kansas!
Math: Again it’s going to get harder now that we are into the third quarter. Our third quarter goal is to recognize the numbers 1-5. I do this everyday with calendar so they have at least been introduced to the numbers. We will start looking at the flash cards 1-5 and doing a number rhyme with music. We are also going to try and start to take a look sorting by colors. I’m going to start with two colors and then maybe when we get that nailed move on to shapes and sizes. I’m still going to continue to work on counting objects up to 15 as I feel we need more practice on that. Parents, you can always help out with this at home too. Count everything. You can count pennies, the food you are eating, count how long it takes for your child to get dressed in the morning etc. Have fun with it – math is all around you!!
Science: We are going to be having classroom discussions with a fireman and a mailman, having the children ask questions. For Kansas week, we get to play with soil and plant flowers. We are also going to play in clear Jello and change it colors. We also get to use water and an eye dropper to change a paper plate different colors, using the colors RED, YELLOW and BLUE!!
